Rage

When I started my blog I had visions of me posting daily, witty stories about my life, and my path to becoming a dietitian. I’d tell a funny story, and then hit you all with an amazing life changing nutrition fact.

Truth be told, university isn’t very fun and I’m yet to be hit with an amazing, life changing nutrition fact myself. And no matter how often I post, I’ll never be funny. Or witty.

I keep getting post ideas in my head, but they are weird, or not quite a full post, or don’t have any accompanying pictures so I don’t end up posting them. But from now on I am going to post them, because I suppose it’s my blog and there are no rules or expectations. And also because my boyfriend says he enjoys reading them, and it’s probably better that he reads my craziness and doesn’t have to listen to me winge that Nutella is on offer and that my life will soon be over.

  • My left ankle has been playing up a little, which is mainly my own fault because I’m apparently too lazy to walk the 10 minutes to the gym to spin/swim/lift so I have been running and running and running. I knew my ankle wouldn’t be able to handle the fast change in volume but I did it anyway, and it resulted in me having to walk 2 miles home in the cold on Tuesday. Lesson learned, I’ll be drastically reducing my running for a few weeks before building it up slowly and icing my foot after every workout. Except, I hate using bags of frozen vegetables and I don’t have a bath. Also, how expensive are bags of ice! So I borrowed my housemates bin and filled it up with cold water from the outside tap. Did the trick, it was bloody freezing. My housemate had to sit on my knee because I kept wussing out.

  • This fills me with so much RAGE!!! As a cyclist myself, I understand that some roads are too dangerous to cycle along, and some times it is faster to get on the pavement. But at 8:45 in the morning when the pavements are packed, GET ON THE ROAD!!!! No cyclist, no. I will not step on to the road for you to cycle past me. (Unless you’re 5 years old riding a ben ten bike – I’m not that mean) If you got on the road you’d be at your destination by now. I’ve started doing this thing where I look the the cyclist and then don’t move out of the way. It’s a bit like Gandalf, “you shall not pass!”
  • I got a place in the Great North Run! I didn’t get a place in the first ballot and was kind of glad, and forgot about it. Last week I was going through my e-mails and completely wasn’t expecting it! I am excited though, but I am going to have to build my mileage up realllly slowly so it doesn’t mess me up in regatta season and so my ankle stays strong.
  • These nuts are like crack.

I tell you, don’t buy them. I’ve had to triple tape them up and put them in my housemates bedroom, alongside other things I can’t be trusted to keep in my bedroom (mini daim bars I’m looking at you). They are so deliciously barbeque-y. I’ve got some wasabi and soy sauce ones to try out next. They are on offer in Tesco at the moment, I think they were 97pence a bag. Cheap for almonds!

  • Henley got cancelled because of the weather, but luckily I managed to get in a senior boat for a race next weekend and then London the weekend after! Very, very exciting. London is a really great experience, it’s a women’s only head race that’s apparently quite difficult and like 300 crews do it so it will be very different than our quiet river dee! Got this 10km next weekend too, so at least 1 medal will be coming home with me!
  • Bloggers are lovely. Nicky sent me some absolutely beautiful brownies in the post after hearing about my brownie fail on twitter. They had a peanut butter topping and were so soft and gooey. They were a great ‘homemade’ valentines dessert! Thank you so much Nicky. Today I went for coffee with Ffion and her boyfriend Iestyn, and then we went to the tri shop. Ffion got some new trainers and I spent more money on lyrca. It was great to see her and meet her boyfriend!

Lycra – like or lump? I had some running leggings that I got cheap and thought fitted, but I bought some proper fitting, soft Asics ones today and they are a million times better. Not saggy in the crotch or at the knees. I think lycra is very flattering when it fits! Also, I own some lime green lycra shorts which I wear in public, much to my housemates despair Winking smile

  1. I know what you mean about those nuts they are lush! How sweet of Nicky to send you some lovely brownies! We will have to sort out a meet up at the GNR, hope your foot gets better soon, have a great weekend x

You’re right, it’s your blog and you should post what you want to! Oh, and I hate it when cyclists break the rules and ride on pavements or through red lights; drives me up the wall!

Hope your ankle feels better soon, lovely xxx

  4. I’ve got a brilliant mental picture of you facing down a balrog/cyclist with your arms in the air! I agree with you on that rage though; I cycle a lot but would never even go on the pavement, let alone through the middle and expect everone else to move!
I’m with you as well on an addiction to Daim bars, what is it about them?? And I think your posts are interesting and funny, and I’ll keep reading :-)

  5. I’m a cyclist myself, and as much as I hate inconsiderate drivers, it is even more annoying to see cyclists blatantly ignoring the rules of the road- the going through red lights, and jumping from pavement to road drives me nuts! Those almonds look yummy, and that is pretty reasonable for almonds!

Your blogs is yours. Use it as you wish! I like more random, more serious blogging!
I really, really like those wasabi nuts but can’t find them anywhere in the central Bristol supermarkets (probably because NONE of them have great stock!) I think the hyper-market Tesco out of town probably has them! Maybe I should take a trip especially!

Hate pavement cyclists too. What gets me is the hypocrisy of some it. They “want to be treated like vehicles?” Then ACT like vehicles by staying on the road!

    Have a great week!

  7. I often think that i don’t have anything really worth saying or have the right pictures, but honestly ramble-y, chatty posts are my favourite kind to write and to read too :D
It’s like catching up on all the gossip from your friends!

Hope your ankle feels better soon :)

I think you’re very witty, even if you don’t see it yourself!
Sorry to hear about your ankle… bad times! I’ve done the same thing with my hip by running waaay too much. Starting to feel a bit better now after 2 months off so I’m wishing for a speedy recovery for you! :)

  9. Errign says:

I hope your ankle feels better soon! I’ve been struggling with not being able to run due to injury lately and it’s damn annoying on occasion! I am a huge fan of spandex, haha!

  10. I’m also going to start just blogging whatever I feel like, I put too much ressure on myself, and ten don’t end up blogging at all! It was lovely to see you on Friday, unfortunately we didn’t have any frozen yogurt as the place closed early :( So instead we went for diner and I had the best Falafel burger! Those nuts look yum, but scared of buying them if they are as addictive as they sound! I hope your foot is better!
